Sporting successes

Enthusiastic children from our academy have participated in a range of inclusive sporting events.

Organised by North East Lincolnshire School Sport Partnership, pupils have enjoyed taking part in ten pin bowling, new age kurling, boccia and a Panathlon multi-sport event.

Two teams travelled to Franklin College for the boccia tournament.

One progressed to the county finals which will be held at the Pods in Scunthorpe during February.

James, from Sea stars, one of our county finalists, said: "I was nervous but I got two medals! It made me so happy."

He won a team medal and was identified as one of the three most enthusiastic competitors at the event.

Teddy, from Orcas, said: "It's fun. I got a medal for coming first. It made me feel good."

Seven children participated in the ten pin bowling competition and the team came third overall.

This was the first time the school had entered and it was very successful.

Amaline, from Sea stars said: "I felt like I could express myself and it didn't matter if I was good or not. I had fun!"

Erin, from Blue Whales said: "Just absolutely amazing. It was loads of fun!"

Seven children represented the school in the Panathlon multi-sport competition at Clee Fields Sports Hall.

Panathlon provides competitive sporting opportunities to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and gives them the chance to represent their school.

Assistant Principal and SEND Coordinator Carolyn France said: "All of the children were extremely enthusiastic and displayed some hidden talents with a basketball and in ten pin.

"They took part in a carousel of activities including parachute popcorn, precision bean bag, boccia blast, slam dunk and flight path.

"It has been great to see them participate in a range of events."

Principal Rachel Clarke thanked North East Lincolnshire School Sport Partnership for organising the events.

"The children loved taking part and returned really enthusiastic about what they had achieved," she said.

"Well done to all who have represented the school and particular congratulations to the boccia team for making it through to the county finals.

"The trips add to our first class SEND offer at Pilgrim Academy. We are proud of our inclusivity and the opportunities we can offer children of all abilities."
