School’s Out for Summer!

Pilgrim Academy ended the school year in true summer style with a fun-filled fayre that brought together pupils, parents and staff for a day of laughter, games and community spirit.

The playground and school field were transformed into a vibrant celebration, with stalls and activities for all ages. From classic games like Hook-a-duck and Spin the Wheel, with prizes of sweets and chocolate bars, to more adventurous challenges like Nerf Gun Alley and Beat the Goalie, there was no shortage of excitement.

The ever-popular Soak the Teacher drew big crowds as students gleefully lined up to throw soaked sponges at brave staff members in stocks. The atmosphere was truly made by the sounds of Big Dave’s Disco, with children and adults dancing to the music and playing in the foam from the snow machine.

A Year 3 pupil said: “The music made the fayre so fun, I danced with my friends to all the best songs.”

Children enjoyed getting glammed up at stalls manned by staff and parents, offering glitter tattoos, face painting and hair braiding while others bounced the afternoon away on the bouncy castle.

Stalls were bursting with treasures—from Bric-a-brac and Adopt a Teddy to preloved uniforms and the ever-popular tombola. There was also an opportunity to meet some fluffy visitors, as Westfield Alpacas Nessie, Vera, Aggie and Coco attended, delighting all ages!

Jackie Smart from Westfield Alpacas commented: “All the children and young people who came to visit us at the Summer Fayre were kind and considerate to the Alpacas, they asked lots of questions and seemed to enjoy their time with the animals. Thank you for inviting us and thank you to everyone who came to give the Alpacas a cuddle.”

One student commented: “I loved the alpacas, it was so amazing to be able to have that experience.”

No summer event, despite the gloomy weather would be complete without delicious food, and the fayre didn’t disappoint. Families tucked into tasty treats from R&M Catering and sweet delights from Harrison’s Ices.

Pilgrim Academy also proudly welcomed Andys Man Club, a mental health awareness group and suicide prevention charity, who hosted an information stall to promote the importance of talking about mental health—highlighting the schools’ ongoing commitment to emotional wellbeing and support for the wider community.

The summer fayre was a joyful and successful event, raising funds for events and treats for each year group to fund their end of year celebrations in whichever way they choose. The funds raised also paid for Years 2 and 3 to go and see ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, performed by our fellow Trust school Waltham Toll Bar Academy at Grimsby Auditorium last week and the entry fee to Young Voices, so that the school can once again take part, as well as more rewards for the upcoming school year in September.

Key Stage 1 chose to have an end of year party with snacks and a movie marathon and Key Stage 2 went for an obstacle course and disco! Our Early Years classes decided to buy some coding robots!

Principal Janine King said: “It was a fantastic event which was enjoyed by all ages. We are very pleased with the amount of money we raised for the pupils to have the best experience possible and everyone’s efforts were greatly appreciated. The PTA, supported by staff, parents and pupils did a wonderful job and we are so proud to have put together such a brilliant event.”

The fayre offered something for everyone while marking the end of another fantastic school year. A big thank you goes out to the PTA, staff, volunteers, families and local businesses who made the day so special.

Here’s to a wonderful summer break and another great year ahead at Pilgrim Academy!
